Pastoral Support

Children and young people are at the centre of everything we do at Woodfield. Every pupil has a key adult who tracks their progress and collates evidence so we have a detailed history of what’s working well, and what we need to further explore to ensure the pupil is able to meet their targets and to make positive progress. Every pupil sees their tutor at least twice a day for a check-in and to read together, this offers an opportunity for a sense of togetherness and reflection, as well as a calm approach to the morning and afternoon session.

Our sensory room is set up to provide a quiet space to decompress, away from distractions to learn to self-regulate with tailored support. Staff are trained in trauma-informed practices and use their skill-set to work with pupils to teach them self-soothing and coping strategies. We have a member of staff who is trained as an emotional literacy support assistant and one as Senior Mental Health Lead.

All staff and pupils use the zones of regulation as a means of learning, talking about and exploring emotions so all pupils can develop effective strategies to better manage their moods and emotions. When incidents do occur, we talk through events with our pupils so they can reflect on how they might have acted differently, and we can provide the skills and confidence for pupils to self-regulate.

During their time at school, pupils may be faced with lots of different challenges both academic and personal.

We are here to help by creating this area to direct pupils and their families to a wide range of support available. Pupils can always ask for help, advice and guidance with any member of staff at Woodfield.
